Hymnal 06+01 - TRUTH - Version Zero.12

Crank the music and howl your curses to heaven with the Hymnal 06+01!!

Blazing Hymn is a tragic symphonic TTRPG whose weightiness and focus on character drama has always made it a favorite of mine! It's pretty rules-lite too, so if you're looking for something with just a pinch of tactics, this might be for you! Go check it out! This was one of the first Cross-Over MECs I knew I wanted and I was so so SO excited when Cat agreed (and gave me some inspiration to do little banners for each of these MECs).

With this two of the initial 4 Cross-Over MECs have been cleared for launch! Next up...

VERSION ZERO.12 IS LIVE

That's right! This Friday I dropped a little shadow update with a number of smaller changes as well as some big additions! Here's the important stuff:

  • Added a 2 Page Spread on Terrain Rules! This includes destructible terrain, cover, collision and even chip damage!
  • Added a Difficulty Chart! Starting MECs probably don't have what it takes to face up against the Midas Convoy and live. This chart will help newer GMs better understand what Bosses and Biomes are tuned to what MECs. It's not an exact science but hopefully it's helpful!
  • Added Deployment Generation Tips! This includes things like "how big should a zone be?" or "what objectives should I run?"
  • Another Balance Pass! You'll see some tweaks and minor additions in the Mechanics Shop! Nothing too drastic.
  • Change to Field Repairs! Field Repairs are supposed to be dangerous as opposed to costly - As a result Field Repairs only take a flat 3 MEC Scrap to do! (Though I am toying with a system where you can spend another 3 to reroll a 1) Additionally you'll notice the Full Repair Cost at a garage has been dropped down to 5k to make it a bit less oppressive. The cost economy of Steel Hearts is something you'll likely see greatly shaken up in a future update, but frankly there's so much more that takes priority that this'll do for now.

TRUTH (KIND OF)

Looking for more answers? Getting ready to run your own campaign but want to know more of the TRUTH? Well luckily for you, I've written a whole blog post detailing some of Steel Hearts' greater mysteries. I have no idea when TRUTH itself will be ready (maybe the end of the year?) so this should help GMs in the meantime! (And I really do only mean GMs! No players allowed!!)

FROM AROUND THE WEB

DragonKid11 (an incredibly witty mecha TTRPG youtuber and video editor) gave Steel Hearts a shout-out during one of their recent videos!! I'm incredibly flattered and for anyone who found out about Steel Hearts from there, welcome!

Additionally Bankuei made an incredibly cool terrain roll table over on his blog that you should all check out!! It's part of what motivated me to write in a bit about how I write Terrain at my own table~

And that about covers it for now! I'll be slowing down work on Steel Hearts for a while to make time for other things, but you can still expect a few more surprises to come with the other two drops. Until then, thank you for reading and supporting this little dream project!!

I strongly recommend you keep the version name up to date if file names, it would make it easier to work out which files need replacing as one downloads new versions.

So unfortunately the way that Itchio works, the only way I can "update" a file is by uploading it under the same name. My biggest recommendation would be to check the Version that your PDF lists (on the front cover of the mechanics shop and the credits page of the core rules). You should be able to cross reference it with the full downloads of both of those in the "demo" section to get the most up to date version ((or you can always redownload the full Zip which will always be fully up to date! ... minus the Cross Overs which I save to fully add in until I finish updates to the main stuff))

That said I'll deffo add a note into the Zip of which version the folder is!
