Beneath the Floating World

The soul is a delicate thing. An untimely death, a traumatic trial, even a fomenting jealously can send ripples; An echo of malice and karmic fury called a Haunting. There are those practitioners who are studied in the old ways of the western mountains, disciples of balance, each one walking wayward paths from a life they can never return to. They call them Exorcists: wandering healers of supernatural disturbances. It is their life's duty to cleanse these Hauntings, and to put to rest the mortal truths that caused them... A duty you are about to take on as your own.

Beneath the Floating World is a tabletop game that explores the haunted underbelly of a fantastical city inspired by Edo Japan. It uses the narratively focused "Carved From Brindlewood" system to create evocative surrealist mysteries where players hone the shape and truth of the Hauntings they must exorcise.

WARNING : This game deals with a variety of adult themes and descriptions that some players and facilitator may find disturbing.

WHAT YOU GET

• A haunting surrealist collaborative storytelling game for 1 facilitator (The Mask) and 1-5 players (Exorcists)
• A lavishly laid out 16 page zine detailing the rules, setting and ambiance of this haunted paradise.
• 4 unique Hauntings each with a variety of interconnected characters, all buckling under the weight of their mortal reality: From a Noh-inspired theater to a crowded marketplace to a serene manor.
• Access to up to 5 additional Hauntings that may be released for this game as well as a small supplement entitled Rhythm & Grace ( ... if it Itchfunds / when it's ready... )

WHY ARE THERE NO COMMUNITY COPIES?

The hauntings, reference sheet and Exorcist sheets are and will always be free. Using these you can get a feel for the game, and experienced facilitators could likely run it outright. If you want a full digital copy of the core zine for free you're encouraged to borrow a copy from a friend, pirate it online, or message me on Bsky and I'll just give you one ~

WHAT'S WITH THIS ITCHFUNDING NONSENSE?

Itchfunding allows me to gauge interest in a game and decide what to focus on! It also gives communities a fun incentive to buy the game and encourage others to buy it ~  Beneath the Floating World is presently a complete work that I'm quite proud of. Thus, the ultimate goal of the Itchfund is to release a more in-depth setting guide for the Floating City called Rhythm and Grace as a free expansion for those who already supported the game as well as write new Hauntings at certain milestones ^.^
